Paint Tricks to Make a Room Look Bigger
Decorating a small space may seem daunting, so people are usually inclined to choose white to give an illusion of space. However, this can create a dull room that lacks imagination. Use these tips on how to make rooms look bigger!
Lighting The amount of natural light that comes into the room is important to consider as it has an impact on the appearance of the paint color. If your goal is to reflect natural lighting, use yellow-toned neutrals. To brighten up a room, use an off white or multiple shades of white instead of crisp white for a more interesting look.
Bold Bold colors can create depth and often soften a room, distracting the eye from size and shape. To make a room appear more spacious, use one color. With no point of reference and contrast, one is less aware of where things stop and start.
Dark and Light This doesn't mean you can't have more than one color if you're set on a specific scheme. Choose a darker shade for the woodwork to accent the wall color. By painting the wall a brighter color, you create a brighter, airier feel while the dark trim looks sophisticated.
Tip: If your home has architectural details, highlight them in order to create a more spacious feel - Paint the bottom half of a wall with darker shades to ground the room and the other half lighter to help create a flow into the ceiling, opening up your small space.
